Programs

The objective of AgroAmerica is to contribute to improve the standard of living of the inhabitants of the communities close to their operations and empower them through education, health, management and citizen participation programs, to become actively involved in the development of their communities and manage projects and State resources for the benefit of their villages.

The Social Responsibility program that AgroAmerica is implementing is focused on health, education, infrastructure, environment and disaster prevention.

Among the programs are:

Human Development Center

A human development community center is being built in the southwestern part of Guatemala that will have schools and medical clinics. A partnership with the University of Colorado was made for this and there will be coordination with local authorities.

Happy Families Program

This Nutritional Food Security program centers on the improvement of health and nutrition conditions and family behavior norms. Some of its objectives are the reduction of malnutrition and the rate of infant mortality, improving children’s school performance, increase of productivity and community development. This program is conducted in partnership with USAID and local health centers. AgroAmerica is also a member of the Food and Nutritional Security Development Council-CODESAN-.

Local coordinator for Disaster Reduction -COLRED-

The Local Coordinator for Disaster Reduction -COLRED- was created jointly with the National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction -CONRED- and the Community Development Councils -COCODES- of the southwestern Guatemala, in order to give support to the communities in case of natural disasters and organize them so that they learn to react correctly before such an event.

Education


Schools

AgroAmerica contributes to the development of education in the rural areas by paying teachers, donating computers, desks and school supplies; painting schools, training teachers and other activities.

Scholarships

AgroAmerica gives annual economic support to the Endowment Fund for the Agricultural Development in Guatemala -FDDAG- giving scholarships to rural area students who wish to study at El Zamorano.

Trainings

AgroAmerica conducts trainings for community leaders, women, teachers, school principals and students, on the following subjects:

human values, civics, HIV/AIDS prevention, environmental care, alcoholism, drug addiction, health and hygiene, nutrition, etc.

Free medical consult and deworming days

In coordination with the Ministry of Health and private entities, on a regular basis medical consult days are carried out where a complete general and ophthalmologic check-up is carried out and deworming for the children.

Fumigation Days

Are held mainly in schools and health centers to prevent diseases such as dengue and others caused by mosquitoes and insects.

Infrastructure

AgroAmerica helps maintain community roads and main routes as well as repair schools and bridges.

Iguana Mission

Agroamerica is a company committed to the environment, so it supports the nature reserve Iguana Mission. This nature reserve was established with the objective of preserving the indigenous wildlife of the Caribbean coast of Guatemala, where the iguanas run freely between the different modules of growth and change, while advancing their stage of development and growth.
